About

About Me

I'm Clark and I'm a computer science graduate. I have been interested in computing since my early teens. I started off by making small games using Scratch. When I got the chance to study computer science in high school, I jumped at it and have been studying it ever since (about 8 years!). After leaving high school, I attended college for 2 years to attain a HNC & HND. While at college, I recieved an award for computing student of the year. Once my HND was complete, I moved on to university. I completed my course in April 2024 & graduated in October of the same year with a first class honours degree in computing science.
In my spare time, I like to develop video games and take part in game jams (You can find my games on itch.io). I also baking & I have been doing an online Spanish course since 2020.

Languages & Technologies

C#

I started to learn C# in order to develop video games in Unity.

CSS

I initially started learning CSS in high school in my computer science classes. Over the years, I have expanded my knowledge and skills so that my webpages look better.

Git

In college, I was introduced to Git as a form of source control. At the time, I used Bitbucket to store repositories online, however, in university, I started using GitHub. I can use Git in the terminal as well as through a GUI.

HTML

In high school, I learned about using HTML. In the years since, I have put a lot of effort into improving my HTML skills and I have used it in many projects.

JavaScript

I have learned JavaScript through university and personal study. I find it helpful when creating dynamic and responsive websites.

PHP

I initially learned PHP during my advanced higher computing science class, however, I have since used it in college and university as well as in personal projects. Many of my projects use PHP, especially when I have a database connected.

Python

Python was the first programming language I learned in school. I used it all throughout high school as well as in college. I still use it today to make tools that I need.

SQL

In high school, I learned about databases and used SQL to create them. Since then, I have expanded my knowledge and use this frequently.

Unity

I used to make video games in Scratch until eventually I wanted to move onto using an engine that was used in a commercial setting. I did my research and chose Unity after trying a couple of engines. Since then, I have practiced by doing online courses as well as making practice projects. I also take part in game jams because they allow me to create a game while also letting me learn new skills. Each game jam I do, I aim to learn a new technique or skill.

Skills

Organised

In college & university, I had a lot of deadlines to meet for multiple modules. To meet these deadlines, I had to be organised so that I gave each module the time it needed to be completed to a good standard. This method worked for me as I never missed a deadline.

Teamworking

I have worked in many teams whilst in college and university. I also did a unit in college focusing on working as part of a team.

Troubleshooting

When I get an error in my code, I troubleshoot to solve the problem. I believe that I am efficient at troubleshooting. Throughout my education, I have been taught many methods that I can use to solve an issue. I undertook a module in college that taught skills to troubleshoot code that I did not write.

Eager to Learn

I am always trying to learn new things. Game jams can be helpful at exploring new ideas or techniques. I have completed or used online courses (Udemy, SoloLearn, Duolingo, etc.) to expand my knowledge. If I don't know something, I try my best to learn about the subject.

Detail Orientated

I make sure that when I'm working on a project, I pay attention to the details so that it is completed to a good standard and correctly.
